I have a question that has been burning in my head for at least a decade: Faramir has Numenorian blood on both sides: how is he related to Aragorn? Do we have any sort of answer to that?

Mayhaps Cregan had no desire for his blood on the iron throne. He could have taken the throne at the end of the war and didn’t. A good daughter for his future son is good enough.

In the movies I got the impression he didn't feel worthy yet. Once he fought in the battles throughout the movies and helped Frodo get where he needed to go, he felt worthy. 'Not wanting it' makes no sense since he was told he had to be king before he could marry Arwen.

Isn't the real question: Why wasn't Denethor king of Gondor? The Dutch went from being ruled by stewards (stadtholder, technically) to kings, King Willhelm I was the son of Stuard(stadtholder) Willhelm V. So why hasn't Denethor or a politically savvy and ambitious ancestor of his done the same? A millennium is a long enough time for something like this to have taken place...

"Sauron's presence alone seems to have turned greenwood into mirkwood" Isn't the whole thing of the mysterious "necromancer" in mirkwood from the hobbit actually the workings of a camouflaged Sauron to currupt that area, as the thick forest made it naturally shaded and therefore a great place for his power, which fears light, to spread? It wasn't just his vicinity, but actually his powers at work directly, i thought, as in him enchanting the forest to be a den of danger and corruption

Why did they name the ram Grond if it was tied to the humiliation of Morgoth? Because it wasn't Grond that failed, it was Morgoth :D

Because as a white male he didn't fit in with Gondor's diversity initiative. Saruman had tried to get Grima Wormtongue into the position first, but then there was that controversy when it was discovered that he lied about being half Chippewa Indian. It was quite embarrassing for them, and they had no contingency. So that combined with the whole "rightful King" and being "instrumental in keeping evil from blanketing the land," he was the best choice. Of course, when it came time to fill out applications for preschools, there was little reference to it. Instead they mentioned about 20 times that their kid was half-elven. A couple humans, an elf, a dwarf, four Hobbits and a wizard. LOTR: the original diverse group.

Love that Faramir as Steward basically said, truthfully , "I'm the steward, but this guy's the legit king, believe it!" and everyone just went, "yep, okay".

If the ring was lost to the ocean I doubt arwen would've stayed, aragorn wouldn't become king, bormir never dies, neither does his father the steward of gondor Gandalf wouldn't have been turned into gandalf the white and saruman would've still been alive So many bad things would happen if bilbo or frodo threw it away, so much of the history would've changed, atleast the deaths wouldn't happen in the way we know And that's ignoring the obvious sauron taking over with his army

Still feels weird, then, that the Stewards held on for over a thousand years, without just making themselves a new line of kings, when there was basically no reason to believe that any survivor of Anarion's line would appear. I can get that they might disqualify Aragorn, or another claimant from Arnor, but if no descendants of Anarion had appeared, in 1,000 years, even if just to be disproven, then there was no reason to believe any existed, so it's surprising the Stewards remained merely placeholders, especially with how ignorant most laypeople could be, in their era.

Gimli was solely concerned with picking up coins.

There's also the matter of what would be suggested to Sauron by a northern claimant to seek the crown of Gondor. An attempt to reunite the two kingdoms would imply possession of the One Ring or at least a desire to settle matters once and for all. It would have been foolish for a claimant to attempt unification without being ready for the final war with Sauron.

I think in the film this is actually explained by a simple line by Gandalf; when he explains what the ring is, he says "You can feel the power of the ring growing? I can too." Perhaps in the film story the ring was simply more "dormant" when lost with Gollum and Bilbo. As Sauron's army and realm goes stronger by the time of LoTR, he is able to more accurately seek it with the Eye.

Also, Sauron was still scared of or wary of Isildurs line. Sauron wanted to find the line and kill it off. The elves learned this and warned the line of Isildur to lay low and not let Sauron 'Arkencide' them. So Aragorn, like his fathers before him played the part of a wood wandering Ranger waiting until fate and events proved the time right to stand and reclaim the throne.

When Boromir asked how long a time must pass before a Steward could become a King, if the King did not return, Denethor replied, 'Few years, maybe, in other places of less royalty. In Gondor ten thousand years would not suffice'. So if the stewards would not take kingship, there really was no one else.

Just *TRY* giving the ring to a stubborn dwarf who wouldn’t take it! It’ll be great entertainment for everyone else.
